Extremely grateful to accept the Jurist Choice Award ‘23 TRUTH Art Show at Blo Back Gallery in Pueblo, CO!
This means so much to me because it is a reminder that, despite some of the shitty cards we’ve been dealt, and all the people who supported us, only to turn their backs on us for speaking our TRUTH; despite the deboosting, demonization, and defunding of creators like myself, there are still decent people in the real world. I dedicate this win 🏆 to all of you, who support free thinking artists and the pursuit of truth-telling through art.
This piece, titled “2021”, uses real news headlines and events to craft a narrative of what happened during that tumultuous year. I thought I wasted 100 hours when I was done because I knew it would piss a lot of people off.
It’s surreal to see my name etched in metal that will be here until the world burns. I’m humbled to see other people respected my work enough to do so. The prize money is most appreciated! But with this timeless trophy, I honor my father’s name and my ancestors. I learned from my father that it’s better to be a truthful man than to hide from conflict. He set an example for being strong and using logic & reason to navigate the world.
I may disagree with what you say, but I’ll defend to the death, your right to say it.
