I always enjoyed this area of downtown for the live music, culture, and art. Several photos of Dean’s and Notsuoh have come up in my work… this latest iteration was based off a photo I took. I then modeled some geometric rabbits in Cinema4D, a 3D software, rendered them and inserted them into the image in photoshop. Then I proceeded to use that as a reference for this painting…
Imagine walking down Main St. in downtown Houston and being so absorbed in a conversation on your phone that you don’t even notice the giant geometric bunny rabbits hopping across the street.
This is how distracted we have become to the world around us. Not only do we miss the natural beauty of the moment but we might even get crushed by the supernatural if we don’t watch out.
I also have begun experimenting with augmented reality on this piece. Where one views it through their phone, the bunnies will come alive as a 3D animation of them hopping by will begin to play. I endeavor to create a whole series of works like this.
