We had an arson fire on 12/20/22 at the studios and a couple studios are completely obliterated. Many of us still have a lot of cleaning to do and only some of the art will survive. The air vents allowed a blanket of soot to cover all studios, including mine.
The worst effected art of mine was a couple hand built eucaboard panel oil and acrylic paintings. One of which I had just sold and put a varnish on a few days ago (See the pentagonal panel). A massive cleaning effort begins.
Feeling for all of my fellow artists who suffered losses great or small… but so sad for those who lost everything.

But unfortunately I haven’t been able to completely remove the stains.
Thank you to those who are expressing concern about the arson damage to my studio and asking how I’m doing. The answer is: not well, in all honesty. I keep it upbeat for the most part, but the damage is worse than I initially expressed. And lots of issues in my personal life are mounting as well.
But, about studio damage:
My studio got covered in soot, all of my works, studio equipment, supplies and furniture were effected in some way by soot falling on top of everything.
There’s several finished or near finished works that were laying flat or leaning, exposed to the falling soot. Those artworks are covered and need serious restoration. I’ve read up and gotten professional advice but some efforts have already been made and didn’t completely heal the work. I am moving onto secondary and tertiary methods but I might need to recreate some works or just sell them as they are. I am considering having some kind of sale of this nature. If you know my work, you know I spend anywhere from 50 to 200 hours on any given piece. So the destruction to my studio has set me back considerably, especially on my latest works.
No I didn’t have insurance. Yes I do now. I’ve spent several days in between the holidays and new year at the studio cleaning out the place, moving to storage, and covering remaining large objects so the cleaning crew will be able to wash out the walls and eventually the floor to get everything back to new. I’ve been here for 8 years so I had a lot built up in this space. I’m also displaced for several months until the building is restored.
There’s a slew of other personal issues that there’s no point enumerating on here as it does me no good to focus on them. I don’t talk about all these other problems because I want to focus my energy on the things that are going well…
