Here’s the piece that got me into The Big Show this year at Lawndale Art Center! See the event page for details on the show. I was overjoyed to be selected again since two pieces were selected last year after having waited 10 years to submit again. It’s really tough to get in as a lot of good work gets rejected each year. I remember about 10 years ago I submitted for the 1st time and was so heartbroken by the “rejection” that I denied submitting until last year, when I realized I was carrying a past mental block: I am not the artist I was back then.
I have sacrificed a lot in life since then to focus on perfecting my craft. (I lived in a leaky warehouse studio for 4 years to name one.)
This year most of my best work was already shown publicly at “Eye Candy” art show (where “XO” sold!), this being a stipulation in the submission requirements that no piece should have been exhibited publicly prior to The Big Show.
I was left with a couple smaller pieces that didn’t make the cut and this one masterpiece to hit my 50th mark in the Iterations series:
